O grupo Spring de Comunicação, que desde 2003 atua no segmento de revistas, é o novo proprietário do canal de TV do Grupo Abril onde antes operava a MTV Brasil. Segundo fontes do mercado, a venda foi realizada pelo banco americano JP Morgan, e a negociação está avaliada em R$ 350 milhões.
As negociações com o Spring começaram em novembro. O grupo, que edita revistas como a versão nacional da "Rolling Stone", pretende produzir conteúdo para o novo canal.
O Grupo Abril iniciou em julho de 2012 as negociações para dar um novo rumo ao canal musical, que saiu do ar em 30 de setembro deste ano, com a devolução da marca "MTV Brasil" para a sua dona original, a americana Viacom.
A rede nacional da MTV tem mais de 30 afiliadas, nas frequências VHF e UHF.
Desde o anuncio da intenção de venda, foram muitas as ofertas de grupos religiosos interessados na emissora, mas o grupo Spring acabou levando a emissora.
